We must continue fighting for equality in our society

expochess news

A few days after the International Working Women's Day (March 8), a Polish right-wing MEP, Janusz Korwin-Mikke, wanted to argue his machismo and denigrate women with Chess as an argument.

It is true that we do not have to give much prominence to this type of ... let's call it an act of ignorance, but it does require a few words. Last July, 2016, we organized the 1st International Congress for Equality of Women in Chess, at the Gran Hotel Lakua under the motto "Women to the conquest of Chess". In this congress we debate a lot about the inequality that we continue to suffer in society in relation to women, in fact, it was almost unanimous that one of the main reasons (if not the main) for there so much difference in number of participants Of participants between women and men in Chess, is the inequality that is lived in our society.

As Jesus Cabaleiro Larrán writes in "Journalists in Spanish" in his article, if we look at history, we see that women have played a key role in our society, especially in Chess (in chess the most important piece is The Lady, not the King).

We have a lot to do and we are on the right track, there is more to see the expectation created by the women's championships and the level that can be lived in them.
