Chess is art when a very bright match produce sensations similar to those of Beethoven's Ninth in an audiophile or 'Las Meninas' by Velázquez to a lover of painting in a chess fan. Despite the enormous progress of computers playing chess, art (creation of beauty) will be almost unique to humans because in chess, beauty is the daughter of error: a game that comes close to perfection as they tend to do machines, it is very unlikely to be beautiful. By contrast, human errors are punished often brilliant combinations.

But the magical connection between chess and art works in both ways: many musicians and writers, like other artists, have been great fans of chess; and many Chess stars have also been great musicians. On the other hand, chess and music, along with mathematics, are the three activities that produce more gifted children, which in itself is an interesting topic to analyze.

In the conference, Leontxo will cover all this; with numerous anecdotes about famous artists chess fans, as well as fragments of music and films related to chess and an overview of the most recommended novels about mental sport. The magical connection is manifold.

Fernando Mosquera Ulloa, Psychiatrist and medical director of the Mental Health Network of Alava and Jesús de Arana Ortiz, monitor of the Mental Health and Counseling Center of Addiction Treatment in Vitoria, will discuss of the therapeutic Chess applications in general and of drug dependency in particular.

Fernando Mosquera Ulloa, is a psychiatrist; has extensive experience in clinical area, was chief of Psychiatric urgencies at the Regional Centre of Health Research and head of department at the Psychiatric Clinic Nuestra Señora del Pilar de los Hermanos de San Juan de Dios (Argentina).

He is currently Deputy psychiatrist at Santiago Apóstol Hospital in Vitoria.

Extensive research experience: he was editor in psychiatric and psychological record of Latin America and chief editor in the journal Actualidad Clínica (Clinical News).
