Interview #33 | Rafael Andarias - "Theatrical chess in Xàbia"

Interview with Rafael Andarias, doctor, writer and chess player, by José Manuel Sierra Lozano, Director of EXPOCHESS.

In the interview we spoke with Rafael about cultural Chess, his city and the Living Chess of this city "Xàbia" (Festival of National Tourist Interest) and much more:

-Historical evolution of the Living Chess of Xàbia, Festival of National Tourist Interest.
-The methodology they follow so that Living Chess has become a new theatrical modality.
-Their own creations and the theatrical adaptations they have made of works such as: Harry Potter, Romeo and Juliet, Asterix, Don Quixote, Love Chess Poem (Scachs D'amor)...

We ended up talking about his time in the ICU after being one of the first doctors in Spain affected by the pandemic.


Who is Raphael?
-Rafael Andarias Estevan, doctor born in Alicante.
-Being president of the C.A. of Jávea, in 1996, promoted the Living Chess of Xàbia.
-First president of the Anti-Doping Commission of the Spanish Chess Federation (1999).
-Columnist of the newspapers Information of Alicante and Levante of Valencia.
-Art critic for Papers (the magazine of the Ministry of Culture of the Generalitat Valenciana).
-Collaborator of the magazines Jaque and ChessBase.
-2019, he published Reina Victoria Hotel, his debut feature in narrative.
-2022, his first short story entitled: MERE NEWS OF MY INTERVIEW WITH MR. MR. JORGE JUAN, FAMOUS SEAMAN AND SCIENTIST, INTRODUCING TO THE PUBLIC MR. FRANCISCO BALMIS, SURGERY PRACTITIONER.
-Currently he continues to publish articles and various collaborations in regional and provincial media.
