EXPOCHESS 2026 starts!

On January 7th, EXPOCHESS experienced a very special day in Azkoitia, its place of origin. We had the honor of welcoming Leontxo García Olasagasti, a leading journalist and chess communicator, whose career and commitment to education and culture we deeply admire.

Together with Juan Bautista Mendizabal, former director and Head of Institutional Relations (Real Sociedad Bascongada de Amigos del País), and part of the EXPOCHESS team, we visited the Insausti Palace, birthplace of the Count of Peñaflorida and the Enlightenment movement of the "Caballeritos de Azkoitia."

Guided by Juan Bautista, we discovered the history, philosophy and cultural legacy of this unique space, whose enlightened vision naturally connects with the mission of EXPOCHESS: to bring together art, culture and chess to generate social impact.

During the visit, Leontxo inaugurated the current Caballeritos' guestbook, a gesture full of symbolism that fills us with pride.

The day ended with a lunch in a warm and enriching atmosphere, where we continued sharing ideas and projects for the future.

EXPOCHESS keeps growing from its roots, with culture as its driving force and chess as a universal language.
